Abstract. A number of potential advances of infrared and terahertz technologies in application mainly to biomedicine is shortly discussed. In spite of the fact that there are a number well established imaging and spectroscopic techniques in application to biomedicine there exists some problems where IR and THz technologies are the challenging technologies that can provide information not available from other techniques. E.g., they can be applied in the cases where there is a need of improving the surgical removal of cancer, strictly locating tumor margins when conservation of normal tissue is needed.

Keywords: infrared and terahertz technologies, biomedical application.
